It has occurred to me if we can be TOO authentic? We can be so "real" that we can disregard other people's feelings.

 

It occurs to me to wonder because we are currently in the mode of applauding true authenticity. Recently, I listened to a panel of video moguls talk about the importance of video. The video platforms are proliferating. There is Facetime Live, Periscope, Blab, Livestream, and the list goes on. Today's video message is offered through YouTube and includes a video message that I recorded just for you.

 

This panel talked about how live stream video "pulls back the curtain" and lets everyone see "behind the scenes."

 

It occurs to me to wonder, however, if we haven't gone a little overboard in the area of authenticity.

 

I honestly don't know...but I do wonder. We have some celebrities who are being given wide berth and lots of free passes because they are so "authentic." When does being authentic become rudeness, however? Do we get to say whatever we want even when it may cause harm or hurts other people?

 

I believe in the importance of being "real," but I also believe that we need to remember to be kind and sensitive to other people's feelings.

 

My daddy used to say, "Your rights end where the rights of the other guy begin." That has guided me through a lot of situations in my life.
