Life is full of challenges. We all experience them in one form or another. But many people find their motivation in facing the challenges of life. And the rest of us can be inspired and motivated by the example of those who have faced and overcome significant hurdles in their lives.

I love motivational quotes and affirmations. Because of that, I thought I would offer some motivating quotes that can help you kill procrastination which often holds us back from being our best selves. See which ones work best for you.

1) "Our life is frittered away by detail...simplify, simplify." -- Henry David Thoreau

Life in today's world has become increasingly complex...even overwhelming for some. It is all too easy to get caught up in the day-to-day grind to the extent that we lose touch with ourselves. This quote encourages us to take a step back. We need to examine and analyze the unnecessary stress in our lives. Simplify, simplify. That may be the secret to a quiet mind and eliminating the need to put things off when they need to be done now.

2) "Failure is success if we learn from it." -- Malcolm Forbes

Failure is only in the eyes of the beholder. If you fail at something, use it as a learning experience. It can certainly provide you with opportunities to learn and grow.

No one is exempt from failing at something unless they aren't trying.

Failure is success in progress

Embrace your failures as essential contributions to your ultimate success.

3) "Always be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself, do not go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate it." -- Bruce Lee

Each one of us is born a unique, one-of-a-kind individual. We aren't meant to try to be like anyone else. You don't need anyone's approval to be yourself. So BE yourself! Accept yourself! Love yourself! The most successful people know who they are and do not shrink from expressing themselves most authentically. Find your authentic self, and don't be afraid to express who you are.

4) "Be more dedicated to making solid achievements than in running after swift but synthetic happiness" -- A.P.J Abdul Kalam

"Synthetic happiness" can come in many shapes and forms. Sometimes people strive for achievements that mean more to their parents or peers than it means to them. Go for solid achievements that mean something to you, and don't worry about anyone else. It's your life. And it's your happiness that is at stake.

5) "Ability is what you're capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it." --  Lou Holtz

Attitude is the key to most people's success.

Attitude is everything

If you have a positive attitude, you will get farther in life. You also need to surround yourself with like-minded people. Those with negative attitudes will bring you down. Don't let them. Stick with those who had an upbeat, positive outlook on life.

6) "Business opportunities are like buses. There's always another one coming"-- Richard Branson

We all miss out on an opportunity on occasion. But don't let that stop you from looking for the next opportunity. If you aren't open to them, they will continue to pass you by. You have to be open and alert to new opportunities, so you don't miss out on them.

7) "Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work" -- Aristotle

Too many people are stuck in jobs that don't bring them any pleasure. As a result, Gallup polls indicate that 70% of Americans are stuck in jobs they either hate or are simply disengaged in.

You cannot enjoy doing something you don't believe in or have a sense of being out of alignment with. Put your energy into endeavors that interest you, and the motivation will follow.

8) "Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm" -- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Enthusiasm concept

Think of all the major innovations and inventions that have been created over the years. If those innovators and inventors had not been driven by enthusiasm, imagine what we might not have at our disposal today.

Thomas Edison was driven by his desire to perfect the electric light. Henry Ford was driven by his eagerness to make a car available to the average man. Neither of these nor a score of other achievements would have seen the light of day had they not been driven by enthusiasm.

9) "The distance between insanity and genius is measured only by success." -- Bruce Feirstein

Imagine what the friends and relatives of the Wright brothers must have thought at their talk of flying. It must have sounded bonkers to them.

But the skeptics would be proven wrong, wouldn't they? The next time you have an inspired idea that you want to follow up on but fear what others might say, consider this quote.

10) "Failure is the condiment that gives success its flavor." --Truman Capote

Back to the idea that success is inextricably linked to failure. You cannot have one without the other.

Admittedly, failure is not fun or sexy.

Illustration of a sad business woman

But success only comes in the wake of your failure and learning what works instead of what does not. The bottom line is that failure is part of the deal. But it doesn't have to be permanent. Success the reward for continuing even after you have experienced a failure.

I hope at least one of these quotes will help you get past whatever disappointment you may be experiencing at the moment. And perhaps one of them will inspire you to kick procrastination to the curb and finally get to whatever you have been putting off. Life is too short to spend it waiting for something! So, get on with whatever you have been wanting to do but have been delaying undertaking.

Until next time.
